Now in support of our Newfoundlanders...I like this one. Old as it is and not true but hilarious and some of you might have already heard it but I love this one! rolling on the floor laughing

It's your call

This is a transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation between a US naval ship and the Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995.

Newfies: "Please divert your course by 15 degrees south to avoid a collision".

Americans: "Recommend that you divert your course by 15 degrees north to avoid a collision"

Newfies: "Negative. You have to divert your course by 15 degrees south to avoid a collision"

Americans: "This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course".

Newfies: "No. I say again divert YOUR course".

Americans: "THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN. THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE BY 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP".

Newfies: "This is a lighthouse. Your Call"

eyesthatknowwhy: That's them...and do not jest; scared me to the nth degree...seriously - tears and that means beyond effing scared. I was told today when I picked up my travel stuff that Whitehorse and then Yellowknife are notorious for severe crosswinds - so yeah, Geo it's the whole sideways thing that gets me. Landing elsewhere was not really that bad...
So next Saturday night, shortly after midnight, I do believe that I will be scared witless for a moment or two...but that too shall pass And it's all so worth it

Seasons Greetings to all

I only get a little freaked out when they say we will be landing shortly....once they find the friggin airport.

The worst landing I ever had was in St Petersburg Russia, they had to line up the aircraft not for the runway, but to miss the damn potholes in the runway...ever been on a plane when it hits a pothole at a couple of hundred miles an hour? Well not quite a pothole...a filled in hole on a concrete runway from World War 1...let me tell ya...

Ah flying...but yeah, that sideways thing is weird alright...looking out that window at the runway coming at you and all those pretty lights...something you are not suppose to see when you are landing!!!

eyesthatknowwhy: For sure!!! The only safety issue is all the frigging landings! Now, it can't be that hard to land a damn jet? Love the flying - those landings in the small AC JAZZ jets - wowsers! They are a b#tch!!!! But better than driving 20 odd hours up the Alaska Highway like Kim's man does

I really like the landings when the wind is blowing so hard that damn plane has to come in sideways. Those are fun too!

But yeah, how hard is it to land a jet? And small ones to boot...can't be any harder than parking a Volkswagon now can it?rolling on the floor laughing

kizzy27: I cannot even imagine how cold that is .......brrrr

rolling on the floor laughing Sometimes we can't either! I think that is why lots and lots of babies are born in the fall in Canada...all that winter loving to keep warm! It does have it's benefits.

I lived in the Arctic for a year...and -60, -70 was not uncommon. Gotta love it or leave it!grin

Now back to toilet seats. My problem is getting women trained to not only get that seat down, but also get the lid down as well. laugh

You flush and whatever is in the bowl and all that swishing water boiling around creates tiny droplets of water that get in the air and get all over the bathroom...toothbrush included and whatever else is out in the open.

Grossed me totally out. rolling on the floor laughing

A formula? How about if you just go with the 'when it feels right to you' thing. Really, your the only person who knows when it is time to move on and when it is not rather than staring at a calendar.

If it feels right, do it. If it doesn't, then don't.

Wantedman: Yikes! man that' rough. I hope at least the sex is good. I'm not normally one to follow the masses when it comes to stereo typing. From my experience you find proud people everywhere as well as modest ones. Because of the uncertainty with long distance communications I tend to keep on window shopping probably as most people would.

I know if I was in your shoes being with a woman that had that kind of additude I would ship her back to Russia! There are enough Canadian woman at least in my city that I have come across that are like that lol

Your quite right....it is a generalization of course wantedman...however, it is deep pride I have not seen in other people. Russian history is written in blood, the people have endured much hardship during the course of their history. Just to give you another example, before WW2, Russian horticulturists collected seeds from every grain grown for food known to man. They kept them in a repository in St Petersburg which was known as Leningrad back then. During WW2, during the siege of Leningrad, around 3.5 million people starved to death during the siege, in the repository was 5 tons of grain that could have been made into food....at the end of the siege, all 5 tons could be accounted for. That is the deep pride I am talking about. We would have made food with it, they didn't because they were proud of it and therefore were willing to die to save it.

But, there are good ones....and not so good ones...the same as anywhere. And not all Russian women are like that either. I know many Russian people. Wonderful country and wonderful hospitable people...wish I could go back.

No, that attitude stayed in Russia....because of the 'procrastination' and the 'she was right and I was wrong" thing. laugh

Wantedman: Great advice thanks folks!

I'm currently in correspondence with a lady from Russia, so far she seems genuine. She answers my questions. lolBut I agree I have come across those that don't answer your questions and just seem to babble on about how they want to married and how Russian man just drink vodka. lol
Only reason I bother is because I had a coworker at one of my old jobs marry a woman from Cuba and they seemed happy. Aswell rumour has it Cuban woman treat there men like gold. :D

One thing about Russian women and Russians is they have this pride thing. I know, I married a Russian woman and she was great...except for some things I ran into. Remember the Kursk? Pride stopped the Russians from asking for American help to save the men on the submarine so they died.

1) She held out her hand and said.." Give me money " and it was expected to be supplied in whatever amount she wanted because after I married her, I was her husband and that is what she expected from me. Never came up before the papers were signed though....only after.

2) I was always wrong...no matter what.

3) She was dirt poor and liked expensive Italian clothes and expected to have it.

4) They spoil their children rotten.

5) Was a procrastinator big time because she always knew what was best, what was the best way to do things and how to do it.

6) Russians invented everything and won World War 2 by themselves.

That is my experience and I know many who have had very good fortune with Russian women. Pride though, it runs deep in Russian blood. Just be prepared to spend a lot of money...and I mean a lot. On the other hand, I know plenty of great Russian women...it comes under the people are people thing no matter where you go in this world.

Good luck.

Wantedman: Is anyone else being contacted by those from other countries or far off places? How do you deal with them? They normally bring up marriage, how do you deal with that?

What are ways to tell the sincere contacts from the scammers? The reason I ask is that I'm getting woman from all over the place contacting me and then requesting that I contact them on there email. Not sure why they cant use this free sites email system.

So I'm wondering who else is having this happen and how do you sort through the real ones over the scammers?

First clue is when they say they looked at your profile....and haven't. How can they know we are the most perfect match in the universe if they haven't even read my profile?

I just ignore them and delete them as fast as possible. Scammers in my opinion...
